My landlord in doing a modification on the house but just got notice of house in foreclosure. Can this happen?

I wonder if it is possibe that the landloard can still do a modification while the house is in foreclosure? I got a Notice of Trustee’s Sale yesterday. Landlord says we are fine but I am having a hard time believing him.
